We believe in a world in which young people are at the heart of solution-building, policy-making and lasting change. The Kano hub is one of 481 city-based hubs across 150 countries worldwide, and one of 15 hubs in Nigeria. Established in 2013, the hub has since gone ahead to carry out successful projects like the Annual Blood Drive, Annual Clothing Drive, Guidance and Counselling Project for Girls in Government-owned Secondary schools, Warawa Water Project, the GirlUp Project, amongst others within and around Kano. Established by the World Economic Forum, the Global Shapers Community is a network of inspiring young people under 30 working together to address local, regional and global challenges. With more than 10,000 members, the Global Shapers Community spans 481 city-based hubs in 150 countries. In each city, Shapers create projects that address the needs of their respective community. Projects range from responding to disasters and combating poverty, to fighting climate change and building inclusive communities. Shapers are diverse in expertise, education, income, and race, but united by their desire to bring about change. Advocate for human rights and disrupt harmful stereotypes. Provide all people with quality education, skills and jobs to ensure no one is left behind, along with promoting new standards of work, digital literacy, online safety and more. Achieve health equality, ensure access to health services, address the social determinants of health, advance youth mental health support and respond to pandemics. Support vulnerable communities, respond to local disasters, take humanitarian action, end hunger, fight extreme poverty and more. Reduce emissions, fight drought, preserve biodiversity, conserve nature, promote sustainable consumption and more. Empower minority leadership, mobilize citizen voting, inspire youth to run for politics and ensure representation in decision-making and solution-building at all levels of society. As shapers, we look for opportunities to have an impact on all scales by joining forces as we represent a network of peers connected through technology, events and joint projects. We believe in a world where young people are central to solution building, policy-making and lasting change. We are thrilled to be a part of this beautiful community of young and talented individuals. The community has given us a platform to express ourselves along with the projects we are most passionate about. “The experience has been nothing short of amazing, so far. I’m eternally grateful for the opportunity to be a Shaper and be part of such a vibrant, selfless and impact-driven group of young people who’re passionate about their community. We’ve made a lot of measurable positive impact on Kano within our capacity, but there’s still a lot more to do.” “If I was given the opportunity again to become a Shaper, in a next life maybe, I’ll definitely take it. And I’ll ensure I join sooner than I did (laughs)…” A network of young people driving changeactiondialogue
